AS Music Tech Exam Complete!

Well done to the AS students for completing their examination, (looked like a reasonable paper to me!) and good luck in your remaining exams.

We have discussed many of these synthesizers in class, however it would be very useful to add the remaining models to your revision notes. The Prophet 5, Wavestation, DX7 and Minimoog were revolutionary in their time, and vintage synths are becoming extremely sought after for their warm analogue sound.

Some more detail for your special focus style notes on Graham Coxon of Blur, plus lots of other interesting info on 90s guitarists. (Coxon is no 16)

It’s that time of year again where students disappear for a few weeks before exams – all the staff in the Music department wish you the best in your revision, and remember we are available at your normal lesson times if you require any extra help. Coursework has been sent off to the moderators and we await the results!

A-Z of pickups – Music Radar

AS and A2 students will want to take a look at this, as questions on pickups regularly feature in exams!

Elastica were an alt/punk/indie band whose fame peaked in the mid 90s, with the release of their self titled (fastest selling ever) debut album, which entered the charts at No 1. Justine Frischmann provided the understated, conversational style vocals, over the bands hook heavy songs. Elastica found themselves at the centre of a controversy when several bands sued them successfully for plagarism, including post punk band Wire and the Stranglers. Elastica songs feature heavily distorted guitars playing catchy riffs, close harmony backing vocals and featured many female musicians in the original and subsequent line-ups.

This resources is one that you should have bookmarked on every device that you own. All technical terms are here, and AS and A2 students should ensure that they are familiar with most, if not all, of the terms referenced. Both AS and A2 exams feature fact based questions which can really boost your mark, and in the absence of an Edexcel supplied list (!) this is probably the best one out there!
